Boxes being packed for care leavers

With the success of last year’s Essex Care Leavers Christmas and holiday hamper campaign, a team of volunteers from the Strategic Commissioning & Policy team at Essex County Council is working in partnership with the Essex Children in Care Council. Once again, our aim is to get as many food hampers and food vouchers to Care Leavers in Essex over the Christmas and holiday period so that they can enjoy some of the extra treats that many of us can take for granted at this time of year. We are hoping to match last year’s target of 159 hampers and 46 £10 vouchers donated through the Just Giving page below.

Who are Care Leavers?

In Essex we have a cohort of over 400 care leavers across the county. Care Leavers are young people who have been in the care of the local authority, who at the age of 16-18 years go into independent living. Many of these young adults have had a difficult start in life and some of these young adults may experience isolation over the Christmas and holiday period. Christmas and the holidays can be a very difficult time for many people so a small gesture really can mean so much and together we can make a difference.
