Celebrating Culture, Identity and Belonging

As part of Black History Month 2026, this exhibition shines a light on the lived experiences, identities and heritage of young people in care from the global majority.

Each photograph has been selected by a young person to represent something that connects them to their culture, whether that is a place, object, tradition, family memory, community, or personal experience. Together, these images tell powerful stories of pride, belonging and self-discovery, offering a glimpse into the diverse cultural backgrounds that shape who they are.

Black History Month provides an opportunity not only to reflect on history and achievements, but also to celebrate contemporary voices and lived experiences. Through this exhibition, young people share what culture means to them today, encouraging understanding, appreciation and meaningful conversations about identity.

We invite you to explore these photographs and the stories behind them, celebrating the richness of cultural diversity and the importance of every young person feeling seen, valued and connected to their roots.
