Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Essex Local Offer details the support in education, health, social care, leisure and employment for children and young people with SEND, aged 0-25.

This includes those who don't have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHC).

Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)

Every school has a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who works closely with parents, teachers, support staff and other relevant bodies.

The SENCO ensures children and young people with SEND receive the right support and high quality teaching.

Contact the school to find out who your child’s SENCO is.

Sometimes a child or young person needs a higher level of support that can be met in their current setting.

This is when you might need to think about an Education Health Care needs assessment.

Short Breaks

Short Breaks are for children, young people aged between 0-18 years or 19-25 and in receipt of a personal budget.

They give children and young people with disabilities the chance to have fun and take part in enjoyable experiences that contribute to personal and social development.

Short Breaks can include clubs and activities, respite, beach huts and days out.
