Research on The Effects of Experiences of Adoption, Fostering or Being in the Care System on the Executive Functioning of Young Adults

Information

Are you 16-25? Are you able to spend a few minutes helping research into the impact of the care system on young adults?

The aim of this project is to look at the effects of experiences of being adopted, fostered and/or in the care system. In particular, I want to understand how these experiences impact someone’s executive functioning. Executive function is the process through which we can us achieve our goals. It involves controlling our responses, using working memory effectively and switching tasks well. It is extremely important for positive outcomes in life, and so research is needed to understand what experiences can impact it.

Requirements:

  • 16-25 years old
  • Access to a computer (to complete the tasks)

What will the research involve? (5 – 10 minutes)

  • A brief questionnaire about your age, gender and any experiences in the care system (if applicable) or any adverse childhood experiences (if applicable)
  • A short game-like task on reaction times and control
  • A short game-like task on memory

If any potential participants have any questions, they can email me at verity.sayer.22@ucl.ac.uk
