Over 900 Care Leaver Hampers Delivered to Young People Across Essex
More than 900 care leavers across Essex have received specially prepared hampers designed to bring comfort, warmth and a little extra cheer during the colder months.
The hampers, which were distributed by Children's and Families services, were thoughtfully packed with a range of items to help young people stay warm and cosy. Alongside practical essentials, each hamper also included a selection of sweet treats to brighten their day and remind them that they are valued and supported.
For many young people leaving care, living independently can present challenges, particularly during the winter months when household costs increase. The hamper initiative aimed to provide both practical support and a heartfelt message that they are not alone on their journey into adulthood.
Items included in the hampers were carefully chosen to promote comfort and wellbeing, helping care leavers create a warm and welcoming environment in their homes. The addition of chocolates, sweets and other treats offered a small indulgence and a gesture of kindness.
Natalie-Jade Vince, Involvement Coordinator, said:
"We wanted our care leavers to know that they are remembered and supported. These hampers were more than just practical items; they were a reminder that people care about them and are thinking of them. It has been wonderful to see the positive response from young people and to know that over 900 care leavers have benefited from this initiative."
The success of the project was made possible through the hard work of staff and partners who came together to organise, pack and distribute the hampers.
Feedback from young people has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for both the useful items and the thoughtful treats included. The hampers have helped bring comfort, warmth and a sense of connection to care leavers across the county.
As Essex continues to support young people transitioning from care to independence, initiatives such as these demonstrate the importance of practical help combined with acts of kindness, ensuring care leavers feel supported every step of the way.
