Black History Month 2026

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month 2026, a time to celebrate, recognise and reflect on the history, achievements, cultures and contributions of Black communities across the UK. This year's theme, "Honouring Our Communities," invites us to recognise the individuals, networks and communities whose everyday contributions shape, support and strengthen society. It encourages us to celebrate not only historical achievements, but also the voices, stories and experiences that continue to make a difference today.

To help us begin this year's celebrations, we are proud to share a powerful podcast created by Essex young people in care.

Through honest conversations and lived experience, young people explore the intersections of culture, race and identity, sharing what these mean to them through the lens of their care journey.
