18 years and over
If you're 18 years old or over and in care in Essex, you can get involved in the Children in Care Council.
There are lots of opportunities for involvement and you choose what works for you.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child says "When adults are making decisions that affect children, children have the right to say what they think should happen and have their opinions taken into account."
By becoming a Change Maker you can:
- share your views with decision makers and Councillors
- work on projects
- inform plans
- discuss areas for improvement within the service
Change Makers have already helped to deliver a fostering recruitment campaign and an 'all about me form' for foster carers.
Come along, build your skills and have a real impact on the way that services are delivered.
Change Makers meet every fortnight.

As an Inspired Trainer you'll be training the professionals including social workers and foster carers.
Training sessions are an opportunity for professionals to understand things from a young person's perspective. Trainers have also delivered sessions with other young people around Child Sexual Exploitation.
Come along and build on your personal development and decision making skills.
The Positive Activities sessions for 18 years and over focus on developing skills to support your move to independence. We run sessions such as:
- driving lessons
- cooking activities
- problem solving
- outdoor activities
There are four opportunities a year to get involved.
