Independent Visitors Service
An Independent Visitor is a volunteer who works with a child or young person in care. They need to be dependable and reliable in order to build a trusting and positive relationship with the child or young person over time. They endeavour to become and remain a consistent adult in the child’s life, who doesn’t change when foster homes or social workers change, and will at all times keep the child or young person at the centre of what they do. When spending time with their Independent Visitor, the child or young person will have the opportunity to talk and share their feelings and take part in fun activities, away from their foster home or residential unit, out in the community.
